Eiri Lavellan
Dreamer. Wanderer. Adventurer.
Driven by a relentless curiosity and chased by a shadow of misfortune, Eiri walks the realm as a scholar of the stars and a helper of wandering souls.
Though she presents a warm, naive face to the realm—always ready with a cup of coffee or a mending spell—her journey is a race against time. Ill-fated by an old tragedy that left her aether fractured and bound to the volatile movements of the heavens, she chases celestial alignments across Eorzea to keep her own symptoms at bay. She gives her healing arts freely to those in need, searching for the one anchor that can finally hold her together.

Background
An Au'Ra growing up among the verdant farmlands of La Noscea could hardly be considered a normal sight when she was a child, especially a Raen claiming to be kin to a family of Hyur Midlanders. Eiri always knew she couldn't be related by blood, so it came as no surprise to her when her adopted parents told her the tale of a shipwrecked refugee vessel where a tiny, foreign babe was the sole survivor. Being near in age to her adopted brother, she was entrusted to the farming family's care where she was loved as a daughter and sister. But the world does not always treat kindly what it cannot comprehend. Her exotic appearance garnered unwelcome attention early on, so much so that the Maelstrom, Yellow Jackets, and the Lavellan family agreed that for the child's safety she would need to remain out of the public eye. So began Eiri's sheltered upbringing where she remained largely indoors, venturing out only to nearby fields with adequate disguise, never daring to near the city of Limsa Lominsa. For years she was content within her warm, caged existence. She took a keen interest in gardening and botany, developed a talent for playing the lute, painted and read for hours on end, and dutifully cleaned and cooked for her working family. In her teenage years, with the revelation of her origins in the Lavellan family and her brother exploring further from home, she began to feel a growing yearning for freedom that could not be ignored. One night, dawning her disguise, she ventured into Limsa Lominsa. The events that followed changed everything. When the dust settled from the chaos, arrangements were made to allow Eiri greater freedom than she had ever known before. She became familiar with Jacke and the guild of Rogues in the city and became capable of defending herself. When more Doman refugees began to make their way to the allied nations, specifically Au'ri refugees, Eiri deduced where she must have come from. With that revelation, her growing capacity in basic self-defense, and the greater degree of ambivalence of her appearance among folk, she found the courage to fully step from the shadows and begin an adventuring life.
Role Play Hooks
Common
Are you familiar with Astrology? During her travels, she became enraptured with Sharlayan Astrology. What began as a desperate attempt to find a framework to control her chaotic, prophetic dreams has become her primary art. She has an uncanny talent for divination, though she is always seeking fellow practitioners to help her map the heavens.
Do you frequent Ishgard? Eiri studies and practices Astromancy at the Athenaeum Astrologicum regularly, using the mountain altitude to get a clearer view of the stars. She keeps a small apartment in the city to shelter during harsh astral alignments.
Are you the adventuring type? She has a wanderlust that won't quit, largely because she must keep moving to stay under the right star signs to manage her volatile health. She gladly provides healing to fellow wandering souls—perhaps she has aided you in passing?
Did you take part in resistance efforts? Eiri has a passion for helping others with her talent in conjuration, a desperate magic she unlocked during a childhood trauma. She has provided back-line medical succor to wounded soldiers in both Ala Mhigo and on the southern front in Bozja, making her a quiet veteran of foreign conflict who bears the invisible weight of the things she couldn't fix.
Uncommon
Do you have a history with the Rogues Guild? Eiri didn't train to be a lethal blade, but after a traumatic abduction, Jacke and his crew taught her basic evasion, street survival, and how to disappear in a crowd. Her infamous nickname among the group was "Bait."
Are you a Doman Ninja or refugee? Her family fled Yanxia when she was an infant. Her connections with the Rogues' Guild eventually introduced her to local Doman groups. She studied alongside them for a time—not to learn the art of ninjutsu, but to quietly learn about the culture, language, and history of the Far East she was severed from.
Rare
Are you a Doman national? Eiri's birth family were noble Doman vassals that fled their homeland when Garlemald invaded—an act heavily reviled as cowardice by those who stayed and bled. A chance meeting with a loyal retainer helped her identify her lineage, providing her with a comb, a signet ring, and a declaration of nobility to help name her as the heiress to the Tachibana clan of Tosho--a princess. A title she has since come to carry with a sense secrecy and some shame.
Are you connected in any way to the darker elements of Limsa Lominsa? Her exotic appearance drew the attention of human traffickers as a teenager. She was abducted by a crew of cutthroat pirates before being rescued by the combined efforts of her brother and the Rogues' Guild. Anyone involved in the Lominsan underworld, the Yellowjackets, or the Maelstrom at the time might remember the incident.
Aether sensitive? Eiri’s aether is fractured and highly unstable, acting like a prism that constantly shifts in hue and density based on celestial movements. To most, it feels warm; to the highly sensitive, its erratic flux can feel unnerving. She keeps this condition closely guarded, but a skilled Sage, Scholar, or Thaumaturge might realize her aura is a medical anomaly.
The Dark Moon Prophecy Recently, the cryptic static in Eiri's dreams has grown louder. An ancient, overwhelming power echoes from across the stars, leaving her with blinding migraines and an intense feeling of dread. Do you study cosmic threats, or does a dark omen loom over your own destiny?

Origins and Lineage
Eiri's origin's begin long before her birth. As she would later suspect, her birth family hailed from the far eastern lands of Doma. Her parents were the most recent in a long line of noble Doman vassels, tracing lineage back to the era of King Shoen. They held command over a small fiefdom tucked deep within the mountains of Yanxia, pledging allegiance to Doma but largely operating as an independent vassal kingdom. ((More about the clan.))The Lord Naoki was quiet; a stern-looking Raen who was well disciplined with a blade, though for his intimidating demeanor he was very kind and gentle. The Lady Suzume was well spoken and often took point in conversation and diplomatic discussion, though she had a playful streak that found ways to make the Lord Naoki laugh. Her scales held a pearlescent white sheen, a trait that Eiri didn't inherit, however her gift of foresight was something that she did pass down to her daughter.Their community was large, and their rule was well respected and looked upon fondly by the people. So when the threat of Garlean invasion became a reality, their advisors urged them to take flight instead of remain, especially given the revalation of the Lady's pregnancy. Fearing for the future of their unborn child and foreseeing the ruin to come, they heeded this advice, which later came to be regarded by the subjugated survivors as a cowardly and dishonorable action. They set sail in a horribly undersized boat without clear regard of where they were going--only knowing they wanted to flee as far from Garlean reach as possible. They dodged their enemy's pursuit, setting a course westward toward Eorzea--a potential bastion of humanity against the rising scourge of the Emprie. In fleeing any pursuers, their small vessel sustained enough damage that a subsequent storm felled the vehicle... Remains of the ship washed ashore in La Noscea alongside the bodies of her refugee crew, a sole survivor barely clinging to life when she was found. Her appearance was unique to the Yellowjackets that discovered the wreckage, as was her language. She was heavy with child and by the time they brought her to receive treatment she was actively in labor. The medics on site did everything they could to try and support her through childbirth, but her health was in poor condition. She passed as the baby was born--a little girl. The midwife attending had a child only several months older than the newborn, so after some discussion between the Yellowjackets who had discovered the wreck, they all agreed to bring the child into the care of her and her family. Thus the foreign Au'ra babe was named a Lavellan.

"The Incident"
"The Incident" is the catalyst that delivered Eiri to a new path.Eiri and her adoptive brother, Adean, grew up together only divided by months in age. As content as Eiri was with staying home and away from the public eye, Adean enjoyed more freedoms and was relied upon to help labor on the farm. As they reached adolescence, Adean began to spend more time away from home in Limsa Lominsa--where Eiri was forbidden to go. He had ambitions to possibly leave the farm altogether, pursuing a career in the Yellow Jackets. These dreams had him find like-minded youths and befriend them, drawing him ever more away from home when he had the freedom to do so, leaving Eiri bereft of her only friend.Becoming discontent with her newfound lonliness she succumbed to a rebellious thought: venture into Limsa Lominsa and see what all the fuss was about. One night when Adean was out with friends and her parents fast asleep, she dawned her hooded cloak and snuck out in the cover of darkness. She was able to avoid people easily and stole away to the edge of the city, where the glittering lights reflected on the water enchanted her; she couldn't come this far and not wander the city a spell.Yet for her disguise, she still stood out among the populace as she wandered the cobbled streets, delighting in the sights, sounds, and smells of the city. She caught the eye of a group of unsavory pirates, who proceeded to shadow her movements through the city. As she finally decided to turn back and head home, the group of men followed her out to the country. She had made it within sight of home when they took her, no one to witness her abduction.Things were dark, the sack over her head adding to the bleakness of the night, the gag that had been placed in her mouth preventing her from speaking a word (though her fear and confusion were certain to be more than adequate to silence her). They had ventured for some distance based on the time from her capture to when the group finally settled down to examine their catch. The men were well into their assessment when Adean appeared. When he had returned home to find Eiri missing and their parents wrought with worry, he jumped to action and began to make inquiries. A search party began looking for her immediately, and he had been lucky enough to find a lead that brought him to where the gang had sequestered themselves. However, his impulsiveness brought him there alone, armed only with a hatchet. He was outnumbered 4-to-1 and the pirates were no stranger to fighting and killing. The ensuing scuffle saw Adean subdued. Beaten and bloody but unwilling to relent, he attempted once more to retaliate, raising his hatchet against their oppressors only to be met with the sharp end of a pirate's axe.Eiri doesn't remember much after the blood. She had remembered screaming out as her brother fell, then nothing but white. In that moment of blind panic, an unprecedented surge of raw, untamed magic tore through her. It wasn't the practiced art of a conjurer, but a desperate, violent tearing of her own life force to force her brother's flesh back together. Subsequent reports provided by the Rogue's Guild and the Yellow Jackets suggested that Adean was prevented from bleeding out from the injury by what appeared to be magic; he had been mended by this erratic burst of aether before anyone else arrived on scene to capture the criminals, the scream having alerted the Rogues who were actively seeking the band who would defy the code. But such desperate magic came with a devastating price, permanently warping Eiri's aetheric pathways into a fractured, volatile state that left her plagued by erratic energy and terrifying dreams.Time went by, and healing happened on all sides. Adean, though his ambitions unceremoniously ended for the time being, did not bear his sister any responsibility for what occurred. Instead he found blame with himself, though Eiri herself bore extreme guilt over the incident and she absolved Adean of any wrong-doing. Together with their parents and some input from the Rogues, they decided on a new course of action: teach Eiri the basic survival skills needed to navigate the world safely. Her sheltered life was over; she needed to step into the realm to find a way to control the volatile, celestial static now raging inside her soul. And so the arrangements were made that allowed Eiri greater freedom with purpose, setting her on a course to become an adventurer.
Clan History
"The Years of Long Darkness" was a subject that is faced with polarized view between scholars and historians. It was known that the period started when King Seien took to throne, and initiated the purging of those who dare to censure or protest to his reign of terror. What was known is that the "Altering of Light and Shadow" is actually an intermittent period of peace where King Shoen would rule. Alas, King Shoen died at a relatively young age. The next candidate to be chosen to carry on the sacred line of Doman king fell to his 9 years old son. Initially, the succession matters were taken smoothly.Due to his young age, however, Prince Tomokichi who would be known as King Hyoen had his divine mandate carried on by a guardian. Grand-Prince Shirakawa, his own uncle, was chosen as the bearer of imperial mandate.Shirakawa proved to be an able administrator and was strong-handed. His achievement even when he was just a royal prince were many. The young King however, was the opposite. Soft spoken and preferred to spend his time reading holy scriptures rather than learning how to govern. In truth, the future can already be predicted by many loyal retainers and ministers of the court. Rumors spread around the that the court supported Prince Shirakawa as the next emperor, and this effectively split the court into two.
The day before the royal coronation of the young emperor, the Shirakawa faction rose in power and usurped the legitimate government. Blood flows upon the Jade Terrace of the Imperial Palace, heralding a dark pall cast upon Doma...still considered a young nation at that time.No less than seven hundred loyal ministers and officials to the true government were beheaded or massacred that day.Evil in men's hearts would prevail that day, if not for a young general by the name of Shou Tachibana. Alone in sea of traitorous servants, he rose. Raising the tattered banner of the Imperial Guards and rallying what remain of the broken Phoenix's Guard.Through cunning mind and valiant mettle, and paved with blood with every step...the young king and his mother, started a long journey to the north...to his mother's clan the Hojo of Asami.
The journey was a perilous one, but through fire and steel, across long malms through a land torn by war, did they arrived in the stronghold of the Hojo.
The next twenty years would be a continuation of "The Years of Long Darkness" as the tyrant King Baien would rule, it was an era that was equal if not even more bloody than the Age of Blood. In the end, people's hearts who were tired of blood feud, was won by the sage-emperor Hyoen, whose dedication to Kami was without equal and held the people's wellbeing in his heart. For his valiant deeds, Tachibana no Shou, who is at this time, a warrior almost without equal both in tactic and battle prowess, only eclipsed by his undying loyalty towards the King and Doma, was granted the nine bestowment that usually only given to a Royal Family member or a Royal Branch.Gift of a wagon and horses: when the official is appropriate in his modesty and walking in an appropriate manner, so that he does not need to walk any more.
Gift of clothes: when the official writes well and appropriately, to show his good deeds.
Gift of armed guards: when the official is brave and willing to speak the truth, so that he can be protected.
Gift of written music: when the official has love in his heart, so that he can teach the music to his people.
Gift of a ramp: when the official is appropriate in his acts, so that he can walk on the ramp and maintain his strength.
Gift of a red door: when the official maintains his household well, so that his household can be shown to be different.
Gift of arms, bow, and arrows: when the official has good conscience and follows what is right, so that he can represent the central government to stamp out treason.
Gift of an axe: when the official is strong, wise, and loyal to the imperial household, so that he can execute the wicked.
Gift of wine: when the official is filially pious, so that he can sacrifice the wine to his ancestors.
He was also granted his own domain in Fuchu, a fertile land deep within the mountain of Yanxia and connected through river with the Yanxian Bay, with a vast amount of Koku (rice bushels) yield. He was elevated as a second rank military noble, enfeoffed as "The General Who Pacified the Tyrant", with his own domain to govern.((Developed in partnership and written by Yoshiaki Ikeda of Balmung))

Prophetic Dreams
Even as a young child Eiri had found herself experiencing déjà vu quite frequently, but it wasn't until she was a young teen that she could begin to realize it was her dreams foretelling future events. While this case is not known to be an iteration of the power given to Hydaelyn's chosen—the Echo—it does appear to be a preternatural gift passed on genetically through her birth mother Suzume's bloodline.Unlike the Echo bestowed upon the Archon Mikoto, Eiri's visions rarely come across clearly. She is capable of receiving these visions at any given point in time, however only her subconscious is capable of assimilating the continuous streams of future-sight, resulting in these signals being presented to her within dreams. Because of this, these visions often become mired in symbiology and colored with her own subconscious thoughts and feelings, making them difficult to interpret with accuracy. Feelings, sensations, or even scents are what she has come to rely on to determine if what she is experiencing was foretold by a dream, occasionally dictating what action she takes next.Astrology aligns well with the notion of mapping the future, which helped draw her to the art even more. It is her hope and desire that as she studies astromancy, she may find a structured framework to better interpret her chaotic dreams and bring stability to her sight. However, since "The Incident" left her aetheric pathways fractured and volatile, her genetic gift has mutated into a grueling burden. By attuning herself to the constellations to soothe her spirit, she inadvertently opened her broken aura to the ambient current of the stars. Now, her regular dreams are frequently drowned out by terrifying, cryptic nightmares of cosmic distress—accompanied by an echoing, ominous voice from across the heavens. The message remains a blur of static, but the gravity and timbre of the words are unmistakable: something looms, dangerous and threatening.Though she dreams frequently, she is capable of clearly identifying her native foresight from these intrusive, star-born messages. Both keep her constantly searching for new means of understanding, controlling, and anchoring her fragile mind.
